I first worked as a musical director in 2010, building relationships with a wide range of institutions and ensembles. In 2016, I enrolled as a scholarship student at the Royal College of Music in London to study orchestral conducting, where I learned from world-renowned musicians such as Vladimir Ashkenazy and Bernard Haitink.
The majority of my work since then has been as musical director, helping many groups in school, university, and community settings to develop long-term strategies, build their audiences, secure grant funding, and improve both musical quality and member satisfaction.
It is my firm belief that with clear planning, ambitious goal-setting, and consistent adherence to the right principles, music groups always flourish, growing in size, performance quality, and audience base. Having guided this growth repeatedly in the UK, I am eager to collaborate with Kenyan organisations to achieve the same results.

Conducting & Ensemble Training
I have extensive experience as a guest conductor and workshop leader. I work with ensembles of all kinds in both the short- and medium-term to help elevate their performance levels, overcome technical challenges, and prepare for specific events.
I am also highly experienced as a deputy, helping groups solve specific rehearsal challenges as instructed by their regular directors. Since relocating, I have had the pleasure of working in this capacity with both the Nairobi Orchestra and the Nairobi Music Society in their recent concert seasons.

Music Tutor Training
Are you a brass teacher seeking to improve what you can offer your students?
I have spent time studying with some of the most experienced and highly regarded brass tutors in Europe, and have spent 25 years continuously honing my own craft as a tutor. I am passionate about helping others to improve the work they do with their students.
I offer a tailored package involving several lessons in which we play together, discuss fundamental aspects of technique, and analyse common problems encountered by students. I will also come and observe you working in your teaching room several times with different students.
Following these sessions, we will discuss the work that was done and strategies that can be used to enable students to make the best progress in the short and long term. After this, I will also be available to answer questions and help with specific problems you may encounter in your teaching practice into the future.

Music Leadership Coaching
As an educator, I am passionate about helping others to refine their music directing skills. I coach individuals at all stages of their leadership journey: educators who are looking to lead student ensembles with greater confidence; composers who would like to be able to direct their own music; and young people who are determined to make conducting a core part of their musical work.
Training in these specific skills can be undertaken in a variety of ways:
1-1 or small group lessons
Discussion and practice of gesture, musicianship, communication techniques, rehearsal and study strategies, and finer points of musical interpretation and understanding.
Observed rehearsals
A supportive post-rehearsal debrief to evaluate specifically what has worked well, navigate challenges, and to develop improvement strategies for the future.
Video review sessions
Detailed analysis of gesture and communication in performance or rehearsal to identify areas of technique for practice and study, and strategies for long term improvement.
Masterclasses
Hands-on sessions where directors take turns leading an ensemble and test out different strategies in practice. Players are also engaged in discussion and constructive feedback.
